Pilot Projects
To test the quality criteria and assurance procedures, the QualitEE project has engaged with 28 pilot projects in 11 European countries that span a diverse range of energy efficiency services. The projects represent 33 million Euros of investment, 33 GWh of annual primary savings and over 9,200 tons of annual CO2 emissions savings.

Austria - Triumph International, Wr. Neustadt
Overview: EPC contract including changes to the building heating boiler, lighting system and optimisation of the building controls for a 36 876 m2 logistic and storage center in Wr. Neustadt, Austria. The expected investment value is 2 345 660 EUR.

Austria - Residential Building Hörsching
Overview: Change of energy source and optimisation of building controls for a 4 725 m2 apartment building with 54 flats in Hörsching. Contract duration and service provided planned for 20 years. The expected investment value is 74 000 EUR.

Belgium – Municipal Buildings in City of St.Niklaas
Overview: Energy efficiency measures in 9 municipal buildings with a floor area of 53 000 m2 and a total energy consumption of 530 000 EUR a year. This includes schools, sport halls, administrative buildings and a museum.
The project does not only aim to achieve an ambitious energy savings target (*) – in line with the climate ambitions of the city – but also includes the full maintenance of the buildings, including the major part of the technical installation as well as the building envelope (roof and windows). The contract duration is limited to 10 years but thanks to the application of the innovative ‘residual value’ concept in the contract, the ESCO is motivated to propose investments based on a long term strategy (20 to 30 years).

Belgium – University Campus VUB, Brussels
Overview: The VUB (‘Free University of Brussels-VUB’) launched an ESC-project (Energy supply contract) for its university campus in Brussels. The district heating system consists of 5 boilers with a thermal capacity of 20 MW and a distribution network of 3.4 km. The system provides heat for 15 buildings. The ESC-project is part of an investment programme aiming for climate neutrality of the university in 2050.

Bulgaria - EPC in a kindergarten in Katunitsa, Sadovo Municipality
Overview: Energy retrofit of а 2561 m2 kindergarten in Katunitsa, which includes insulation of the external walls and roof and replacement of windows. It is a 7 year EPC contract and the investment value is ~ 204 000 EUR. This is implemented with the support of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund (Bulgaria).

Bulgaria - EPC in a school in Kostinbrod, Kostinbrod Municipality
Overview: Energy retrofit of a school through a 5-year Energy Performance Contract. Measures include thermal insulation of external walls and the roof, replacement of windows and doors, alongside reconstruction of the heating system. The investment value is 118 862 EUR.

Slovakia - Building of student dormitory ŠD5 - Starohájska 2900/8 in Bratislava
Overview: Thermal insulation of the building envelope, reconstruction of the heating system, new doors and windows, modernisation of lightning system and water saving measures. Expected EPC duration is 16.5 years and the investment value is 505 000 EUR.

Slovakia - Psychiatric Hospital of P.Pinel
Overview: Energy efficiency measures are going to be implemented in 13 heated buildings of the hospital complex with a floor area of 12 254 m2. The total energy consumption of the complex is 7.91 GWh per year. The measures required in a procurement stage are a switch from steam to hot water boilers, new heat distribution system, hydraulic balancing, centralised regulation, water saving measures and energy management system implementation. Expected duration of EPC contract is 11 years.

Slovakia - Service Centre in Nováky town
Overview: Deep retrofit of a municipal building in Nováky with a floor area of 829,2 m2. The renovation includes: renewal of heating system, thermal insulation of building envelope, new windows, installation of ventilation system, regulation and energy monitoring and installation of PV plant (10 kW). EPC contract duration is 15 years. The investment value is 560 615 EUR.

Spain - Supermarket Chain
Overview: Telemetric measurement of electrical supplies by replacing electrical tariff meters that allow the customer to access and display their consumption through the Swap&Play platform. The investment value is ~162 000 EUR.

UK - South Cambridgeshire Hall
Overview: PV car ports, EV charging, ground source heat pump & various efficiency measures for municipal offices in Cambridgeshire. The ambition of this project is to go as far as possible to reducing the Council’s flagship building’s carbon footprint to zero within reasonable economic limits. The investment value is ~1.76 mill.
